The Story Of The Cambodian Genocide
Today I will tell you what happened to the cambodian people in the cambodian genocide. Between the years 1975-1979 a political party called Kampuchea,Pol Pot leader was in control of the government. In those years more than 1.7 million people were killed through inhumane ways like starvation and torture. Lead by pol pot his followers The Khmer Rouge.
Timeline
- 1975- Lon Nol is overthrown by Pol pot and his people, Country name changed to Kampuchea, people got forced to move to the countryside to work in farms,Money loses all value, freedoms are cut and religion is banned, hundreds are executed and or tortured in specific centers other people starve or die of plague, Death toll estimated to be 1.7 million.
- 1976- Pol pot becomes Prime minister,Khieu Samphan becomes head of state,democratic Kampuchea is the new name for the country
- 1977- Vietnam war starts
- 1978-Vietnamese forces invaded in a fast assault.
- 1979- Vietnamese take over Phnom Penh and Pol pot and his people flee.
